Kenny Schrader to Race Twice at Las Vegas

5 November 1997

SCHRADER TO PULL DOUBLE DUTY AT LVMS

LAS VEGAS, NV - Versatile NASCAR star Ken Schrader, who won the first stock
car race ever held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 1996, will pull double duty
during Carquest Auto Parts 420K Presented by Las Vegas Events weekend Nov. 7-9
as he has indicated he will compete in both races being held on the 1.5-mile
superspeedway.

Schrader will drive a truck owned by the legendary A.J. Foyt in the Carquest
420K on Sunday, Nov. 9, the season finale for the popular NASCAR Craftsman
Truck Series. In addition, Schrader will wheel his own Skoal Bandit Chevrolet
in the 300-kilometer NASCAR Winston West Series race that will be held on
Saturday, Nov. 8.

The Fenton, Mo., native is a popular star on the NASCAR Winston Cup Series who
is known for his love of racing almost any kind of racing vehicle on almost
any kind of track. During the past 10 years, Schrader has maintained a
demanding schedule of events in addition to running the full NASCAR Winston
Cup Series.

Though he has cut back on his outside racing activities in recent years,
Schrader has enjoyed success on both the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and the
NASCAR Winston West Series. He drove to victory last November as the NASCAR
Winston West Series ran the first stock car event ever held on the LVMS track.
Earlier this year, he won as the series ran the first race of any kind on the
new California Speedway in Fontana, Cal.

"I just love to race," said Schrader, who owns a NASCAR Truck team for driver
Mike Wallace that will also compete in the Carquest 420K. "I still get a lot
of enjoyment out of racing, and winning never gets old."

Schrader will join fellow NASCAR Winston Cup star Bill Elliott as competitors
in the Carquest 420K, along with NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series stars such as
Jack Sprague, Rich Bickle, Joe Ruttman, Mike Bliss, Jimmy Hensley and
defending series champion Ron Hornaday.

Several NASCAR Winston Cup drivers are expected to join Schrader in the field
for the NASCAR Winston West 300K as the teams use the race to gain track
experience that will help them prepare for the inaugural Las Vegas 400 NASCAR
Winston Cup race that will be held on March 1, 1998. NASCAR Winston West
Series stars such as Butch Gilliland, Sean Woodside, Gary Smith and others
will offer strong competition to the invading Cup drivers.

The NASCAR Winston West 300K will get the green flag at 4 p.m. on Saturday,
Nov. 8, following a full day of practice and time trials for both the Trucks
and the West cars. The Carquest 420K begins at 12 noon on Sunday, Nov. 9.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway has set Nov. 9 as "Nevada Family Day" for the
Carquest 420K. Nevada residents may receive two tickets for the price of one
with proof of residency, and children ages 11 and under will be admitted free
with a paying adult. LVMS ticket information is available at (702) 644-4443.
Tickets are also available at Ticketmaster.
