Bill Elliott in Good Spirits after Surgery to Remove Hardware from Hip

BIRMINGHAM, AL - (November 18, 1997) - NASCAR Winston Cup Series owner/driver Bill Elliott is in good spirits and feeling fine following surgery today to remove plates and screws from his left hip. Elliott will spend the night in the hospital and begin rehabilitation tomorrow. The 42-year old driver will be on crutches for a few weeks but doctors expect the hip to be completely healed in four to six weeks. The surgery was performed at HEALTHSOUTH Medical Center in Birmingham, AL by orthopedic surgeons Dr. James R. Andrews and Dr. Richard Sanders of the Alabama Sports Medicine. The driver of the No. 94 McDonald's Ford sat out seven races last season after being injured in 1996 in an accident at Talladega Superspeedway. Lori Vizza -- The Auto Channel
