IHRA: Cannon Earns Runner-up At Melbourne

20 December 1997

MELBOURNE, AUS In drag racing, its the little things that will always beat a racer. Scotty Cannon found that out the hard way in the finals at Melbournes Calder Park Raceway in the finals against Victor Bray.

During an apparent bout with tireshake, the OnSat sponsored, 1953 Studebaker lost fire when an electrical connection shook loose during the final round. Cannon could only shake his head in disgust as he was forced to surrender a substantial starting line advantage and the lead at the 60-foot mark.

I guess it was about time for some bad luck, laughs Cannon. Things have been going pretty good and I guess you could say we never want to lose, but it always is good to have something like this to keep us in check. Well get them next time.

The 5-time IHRA Pro Modified World Champion Cannon was the number one qualifier in this 3rd meeting of the ANDRA Top Doorslammer Series with a 6.408/216.50.
