U.S. F2000 Announces 1998 Schedule

30 December 1997

FAIRFIELD, N.J. -- The U.S. F2000 National Championship has announced its 1998 season schedule, including seven road course events, six ovals and one street circuit race.

For the third-straight year, the U.S. F2000 opens its season at Walt Disney World Speedway's one-mile oval as the Friday feature during the Indy Racing League Indy 200, January 22-24. After a month off, the series hits Phoenix International Raceway with the IRL for the Phoenix 200 weekend, March 20-22. The Phoenix event will mark the series' first-ever 100-mile, mandatory pit-stop contest.

The first road course event takes place at the Metro-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex, May 1-3, for a double-race weekend with the NTB Trans-Am Series and the United States Road Racing Championship's Can-Am and GT series.

The series' busiest stretch begins with the Parts America 150 doubleheader at Watkins Glen International with the NASCAR Craftsman Trucks, May 29-31. The next two events are shared with the NTB Trans-Am and USRRC, starting with the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, June 12-14, and then taking to the streets of Minneapolis, Minn. for the Sprint PCS Grand Prix of Minnesota, June 27-28.

The series returns to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the VisionAire 500k doubleheader, July 23-25 with the IRL, and then makes its second 1998 stop at Mid-Ohio for the Federal Express CART PPG World Series' Miller 200 weekend, August 7-9. The season wraps-up with a doubleheader at the Atlanta Motor Speedway with the IRL, August 28-29.

"Our continual growth has opened up a lot of doors for our series, including great schedule opportunities," said series co-promoter Dan Andersen. "The 14-race schedule for 1998 is our strongest ever, providing the best exposure on the three venue genres vital for the complete motorsports education."

One additional race will be scheduled at Road Atlanta, with the date to-be-announced. All U.S. F2000 National Championship races are sanctioned by SCCA Pro Racing, with the Oval Crown Championship co-sanctioned by the United States Auto Club.
