2 January 1998
Cristiano da Matta and Airton Dare will race for Tasman Team in 1998. They already started their practices and Da Matta is one of the favorites to clinch the 1998 title again for Brazil and for Tasman. Felipe Giaffone, cousin of IRL racer Affonso Giaffone, will also race in Indy-Lights in 1998. "I am talking to Brian Stewart Racing, but have nothing signed yet" said Felipe. He continued, "My target is to be champion in 1998, and to go to CART in 1999." Giaffone was one of the best brazilian karting drivers of his time. Valdeno Brito Filho, who has strong support of Petrobras, will also run in Indy-Lights, but has nothing confirmed yet. Oswaldo Negri Jr. is still trying to raise up funds and is in Brazil looking for sponsors for 1998. "The Brazilian Economical situation isn't very good now to raise up funds, but we are trying hard to get some sponsors and to forget this bad year we had in 1997." said Negri.
