Tyler Earns First USAC Silver Crown Victory

18 January 1998

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., - Brian Tyler earned his first victory in the USAC Silver Crown Championship Series on Saturday at Walt Disney World Speedway.

In the 50-lap Silver Crown feature, Tyler took the lead on the 49th lap when Jason Leffler ran out of fuel. Leffler led laps 16 through 48, taking the lead after polesitter Kenny Irwin, Robby Flock and Dave Steele hit the outside retaining wall in Turn 1.

"I saw Jason pull up, and I slid right in there," Tyler said of his late pass. "They told me on the radio I had a lot of room, so I took the last lap slow and easy, and brought it home to victory."

John Heydenreich was second and Chet Fillip third in the season-opening USAC Silver Crown race. It was the first USAC Silver Crown race at this track.
