NHRA Engine Builder To Try Craftsman Trucks

6 February 1998

ARLINGTON, TEXAS - Reher-Morrison Racing Engines has announced that they will add a NASCAR Craftsman Truck team to their 26-year racing legacy.

The Arlington, Texas based company is the primary engine builder for NHRA teams and also works with many Winston Cup teams. Additionally they own the successful Outlaw-sponsored NHRA Pro Stock driven by Bruce Allen. After many years of going straight and seven world championships co-owner Buddy Morrison has developed another division of the company called Reher-Morrison Motorsports.

"We plan to compete in 10 truck races this season, but we must sign a sponsor to do that," said Morrison. "Since we are so new and we only plan to race a partial schedule, we feel we can offer a company a great deal of publicity at a reasonable price."

Newcomer David Starr of Houston will pilot the Chevrolet 1500 making his debut Sunday, January 18, in the season opener at Disney World Speedway.

Starr comes from a Texas dirt track background and has raced asphalt late models around Texas as well as on the East Coast. His superspeedway experience comes from being a former instructor for Team Texas High Performance Driving School at Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas and Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas.

"Starr has the potential to be a great race car driver," said Morrison. "Plus with his All-American look and outgoing personality he has a lot to offer sponsors."

The team has yet to sign a primary sponsor. In the meantime, the truck will sport New World Health and 'Speedway Childrens Charities logos. It will also feature the team's latest promotional strategy , a web site developed by Reher-Morrison and NeoFocus, an Internet marketing company, to raise money for Speedway Children's Charities. The site features a fantasy racing game where fans can pick drivers for each race and earn points. Each week and at the end of the season prizes are awarded to players with the highest points. The game is free, but to be eligible for prizes players must donate at least $15 to the charity. Donations can be made directly online via a secured credit card transaction.

Debbie Wilson, National Marketing Director for Speedway Children's Charities, said, "NASCARFANtasy.com has the potential to raise a great deal of money for the charity and will provide unlimited publicity to the sponsor that joins David Starr and Reher-Morrison."
