SCCA Announces BFGoodrich as World Challenge and Spec Racer Ford Pro Series Spec Tire Supplier

10 February 1998

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BFGOODRICH TIRES NAMED SPEC TIRE SUPPLIER FOR THE SCCA WORLD CHALLENGE AND
SPEC RACER FORD PRO SERIES

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (February 9, 1998)—BFGoodrich Tires, official tire
supplier for the NTB Trans-Am Series, will also be the spec tire
manufacturer for the SCCA World Challenge and Spec Racer Ford Pro Series.
As tire supplier for the World Challenge and SRFPS, BFGoodrich
Tires will provide DOT street radial tires, with a variety of fitments in
the World Challenge and the spec 185/60-13 (front) and 205/60-13 (rear)
tires for the SRFPS.
The World Challenge will utilize the BFGoodrich g-Force R1 tire, a
molded race-depth street tire that earned three SCCA Club Racing National
Championships at the 1997 SCCA Valvoline Runoffs (Showroom Stock B,
Showroom Stock C and T1).
"BFGoodrich Tires offers the most technologically advanced DOT
racing tire in the world, and we're extremely pleased to partner our World
Challenge and Spec Racer Ford Pro Series with BFGoodrich Tires' product,"
said Mitch Wright, Technical Manager, SCCA Pro Racing.
The World Challenge Championship is North America's premier
production-based road racing series, featuring competition in two
classes—Touring 1 and Touring 2—based on engine displacement and
performance potential. World Challenge race cars are highly-modified street
models, featuring production-based but upgraded suspension, brakes and
drivetrain.
With 27 marques representing 23 manufacturers last season and at
least that many in 1998, the World Challenge is the ultimate proving ground
for street-car performance technology. Manufacturers from North America,
Asia and Europe compete in the World Challenge, including the Chevrolet
Corvette and Camaro; the Saleen and Ford Mustang; BMW's M3, 328is and
318Ti; Porche's 911; the Toyota Supra; Acura's NSX and Integra; Honda's
Prelude and Del Sol; the Saturn SC; the Dodge Neon; and Mazda's RX-7, RX-7
Twin Turbo and 626.
"There is no production-based series that offers closer competition
than the World Challenge," said Herb Johnson, Director of Motorsports,
BFGoodrich Tires. "With the wide mix of performance and weight among the
various competing cars, the World Challenge offers the perfect opportunity
to demonstrate the full performance potential of our g-Force R1 tire."
The SRFPS features identical open-cockpit sports racers, offering
controlled-cost competition for drivers looking to make their way up the
professional racing ladder.
"As the spec tire for a spec-racing series, our goal will be to
provide a competitive, long-wearing tire that will allow each driver's
skill to shine," added Johnson. "BFGoodrich brand looks forward to helping
each driver preform to his or her best by providing only the best in DOT
racing tire technology."
