Indy Lights: Lucas Place Motorsports Tests at Big Springs

26 February 1998

Geoff Boss recently completed another successful three-day test session for Lucas Place Motorsports at Big Springs, Texas. A fourth day of testing was scheduled, but heavy rain showers forced it to be canceled.

Boss ran 450 miles during the three days, pushing his pre-season total to over 1,900 miles. Boss' lap times were slightly faster than those of Team Rahal's Mike Borkowski and PacWest's Didier Andre who were also testing at the track.

Team manager Chris Lucas was pleased with the way that the test went. "We used this test to develop our shocks, and we made some good progress in that area," commented Lucas. "I think that given the nature of this course, with long straightaways followed by tight turns, we should have a good baseline set-up for Long Beach."

Brian Cunningham is continuing to recover from injuries suffered during a crash last month at Homestead. "Brian is recovering well, and he should be ready for the season opener on March 15th at Homestead," said Lucas. "We have taken delivery of a new Lola chassis to replace the one damaged in his accident, and we are anxious to start racing again."

The next activity for the team will be the open test session for all Dayton Indy Lights competitors at Homestead on March 10th - 11th. ESPN2 will air the race on March 16th from 1:00 - 2:00 AM Eastern time.
