IRL Announces Team Scandia as First Entrant for 1998 Indy 500
27 February 1998
For Immediate Release TEAM SCANDIA IS FIRST ENTRANT FOR 82ND INDIANAPOLIS 500 INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 27, 1998 - Team Scandia filed Feb. 25 the first entry for the 82nd Indianapolis 500, May 24 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Jimmy Kite drives the Royal Purple Synthetic/"Synerlec"/Scandia Dallara/Aurora/Goodyear for Team Scandia, based in Indianapolis and owned by Andy Evans. "Hopefully we'll have a lot of firsts," said Kite, 22. "Hopefully we'll be the first car in Victory Lane on Sunday, too." Kite, who debuted with Team Scandia in June 1997, will attempt to compete in his first Indianapolis 500. He must start the Rookie Orientation Program on April 14-15 at the Speedway to be eligible to race in the Indianapolis 500. "That's going to be different," Kite said of taking his rookie test. "I thought I was all over with rookie tests. But I'm not too concerned. I know the speeds will be higher, but I'm used to the way the car reacts at speed. So many good things have happened to me in the last year. The only thing that's missing is a win. Hopefully we'll get it at Indy." Entries for the 82nd Indianapolis 500 were mailed Feb. 23. All entries must be received by the IRL by April 9. ...indy98-03...
