5 March 1998
DIEHARD NAMED OFFICIAL BATTERY OF THE NTB TRANS-AM SERIES AND THE SPORTS CAR CLUB OF AMERICA Englewood, colo. (March 3, 1998)—Making a return to its racing roots, DieHard—America's most preferred battery—has been named the official battery of the NTB Trans-Am Series and the Sports Car Club of America. DieHard made its racing debut in 1969 as an integral component of Roger Penske's championship-winning Trans-Am Chevrolet Camaro, driven by the legendary Mark Donohue. As official battery of America's road racing muscle car championship, the NTB Trans-Am Series, DieHard will offer contingency awards for competitors using the DieHard, with $1,500 posted for each race and $3,500 offered in year-end awards. "We welcome the return of DieHard to the NTB Trans-Am Series," said John Clagett, SCCA Pro Racing Vice President, Marketing Communication. "The long, successful history of DieHard batteries in racing parallels that of the Trans-Am. With the rebirth of the NTB Trans-Am Series in 1998 it is only fitting that DieHard returns this season to the series where its racing success began." As official battery of the SCCA, Diehard will also offer a contingency program for SCCA amateur racers, posting $900 in awards per class for the 1998 SCCA Valvoline Runoffs. "DieHard batteries are America's most preferred battery, both on the street and in race cars," said David Egeland, DieHard Brand Director. "We're very pleased to be involved once again with the Trans-Am and the Sports Car Club of America." - 30 -
