WoO: Winters Performance Recalls Rear Ends

9 March 1998

YORK, PA - In the wake of an unusually high number of his company's rear ends malfunctioning, Winters Performance Products, Inc., President Vaughn Winters, Sr., is recalling the rear ends with the new integral bell center section.

"We had another company heat treat the cases around those rear ends," Winters said Thursday. "They came in a few at a time without our knowledge and we went ahead and machined them. We can't really tell the racers how to distinguish between an improperly heat treated case and a regular one, so we're recalling them."

Winters says the improperly heat treated rear ends can't stand a shock and break easily.

"We will cooperate in any way we can to get these back," Winters said, "and we will get a new one back in the racer's hands as soon as possible.

"We're working 18 hours a day and we have four peopletransferring the parts from one case to another."

Anyone who has purchased one of the integral bell center rear ends should call Winters Performance Products at (717) 764-9844 and Winters will arrange to have it picked up. Winters has several transportation companies ready to transfer parts between it and its customers.

This recall prompted the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series to outlaw Winters' integral bell rear ends starting with its March 13th race at Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, MS. WoO
