11 March 1998
Report from Curitiba - First Race of the Season Ingo Hoffman (former F-1 driver) made his pole in the last 3 minutes of Saturday's qualifying with an astonishing time, 2 tenths faster than all the other drivers. Xandi Negrão, Hoffman's teammate, started second, while Alessandro Weiss started third. At the start we had an accident with four cars just behind Ingo Hoffman, who got away, winning with a difference of 0.4 second over his teammate, and more than 10 seconds ahead of the third place finisher. Carlso Etchenique finished first in Class B, followed by Carlos Cunha. So, the season started like the last one ended, with Hoffman dominating and Xandi second. Will this be the 11th title for Hoffman in Brazilian Stock Car?? Only one man can stop him-s teammate Xandi Negrão. Marc Zimmermann -- The Auto Channel
