NHRA: Adams Named Facilities Superintendent at Pomona Raceway
11 March 1998POMONA, Calif. -- Stan Adams has been named Facilities Superintendent at Pomona Raceway, National Hot Rod Association officials announced recently. Adams, 56, a native of Pomona and resident of Alta Loma, will oversee the day to day operations at the quarter-mile facility, handle scheduling, facility preparation, maintenance and security.
"We are very fortunate to have selected an individual with such unique qualifications," said NHRA Vice President for Business and Legal Affairs Cary Menard. "Stan's lifetime of experience in the motorsports industry, coupled with his thorough knowledge of Pomona Raceway, made him the ideal choice for this position."
Adams first attended Pomona Raceway as a child, which prompted him to pursue a career in the motorsports industry. In the past he has served as general manager of Hawaii Raceway Park, worked as a track announcer for a variety of tracks in Southern California, was public relations director for Dick Landy's Dodge Performance Clinics and operated a Top Fuel car in NHRA Southeast Division competition. Most recently, Adams was West Coast manager for Weld Wheels.
"It's kinda like coming home for me," Adams said. "I can remember riding my bicycle out to this track when I was a kid and begging them to let me in. They would let me in for free if I would paint numbers on the cars at the track. I guess I've gone full circle now and I'm back where I started from. I had always thought about this happening, and now that the opportunity has come about, I'm really happy and looking forward to it."
Pomona Raceway hosts two annual NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series events, the recent Chief Auto Parts Winternationals presented by Pennzoil, and the Winston Finals (Nov. 12-15). In addition, the track hosts a large variety of events, including the Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School, L.A. County Sheriff's driving school, NHRA Street Legal program, NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League, Super Chevy Show and the Good Guys nostalgia series, among others.
