"Wheel-2-Wheel Magazine" Debuts With New Format

14 March 1998

Indianapolis, IN -- Entering its second year of publication, the former "Midget Racing Magazine" has taken on a new identity, format and name. "Wheel-2-Wheel Magazine" will now be a bi-monthly, high-quality publication that will cover non-winged Sprint car racing and Silver Crown racing, and will also continue its extensive coverage of Midget racing on the national as well as international racing scenes.

Because of the growing popularity of the three major divisions of open-wheel, grassroots racing, it became necessary to address the needs of the racing fan that traditional media have not been able to fill until this point. The format of "Wheel-2-Wheel" will be similar to its predecessor in that it will cover various topics in open-wheel racing, including features on drivers, teams, tracks, promoters, manufacturers, vintage racing, charitable contributions, rising stars, special events, race previews and reviews, women making a difference, event elements, tech tricks, coverage of open-wheel drivers who may have moved on to other series and, of course, columns by nationally-known writers. The high-quality of the photos evident in the previous publication will also remain a priority in "Wheel-2-Wheel."

Subscriptions previously sent in to "Midget Racing Magazine" will roll over to "Wheel-2-Wheel," with renewal notices sent out approximately two months prior to the subscription running out (all subscribers will get the full 12 issues for their subscription). New subscriptions to "Wheel-2-Wheel" with the expanded coverage will still be priced at $24.95 for a one-year subscription, and $46.00 for a two-year subscription. For subscribers who are used to the delivery of the weekly (during the racing season) "Touch 1 Midget Racing News" updates via fax or e-mail (free to subscribers only), that service will also continue, but with the expanded coverage of all three divisions.

"I am proud to be able to bring much-needed coverage of Sprint, Midget and Silver Crown racing to the racing community," said Janie Vogel, Publisher of 'Wheel-2-Wheel' and the former 'Midget Racing Magazine.' "The fans of open-wheel racing are highly intelligent and realize the skill level the drivers have to possess in order to enable them to move on to other levels of racing, such as the Indy Racing League and NASCAR. The popularity of these three divisions has shown me that the racing community is truly hungry for this type of information - they want to know where their heroes came from, and how they got there.

"In addition, I will be hosting three separate radio program segments per week that will concentrate on all three of these open-wheel divisions," she continued. "This will allow me to not only bring complete features-related coverage to my subscribers through "Wheel-2-Wheel," but I will be able to provide up-to-date results by Tuesday weekly through the "Touch 1 Midget Racing News" service as well as news on various open-wheel issues throughout the week via the radio programs." The radio programs air Monday's on WSDM 98 FM (from Terre Haute, Indiana to Springfield, Illinois), Tuesday's live at McGilvery's Pub in Indianapolis, aired on WQFE 101.9 FM and on Thursday's on WKFI 1090 AM, which reaches from Cincinnati to Columbus, Ohio.
