IHRA: Duggins, Dobbins Take Wins at IHRA WCS Opener

Jackson, SC -- Scott Duggins took top honors and the early points lead in the Top Dragster division at Carolina Dragway during the season opening IHRA Snap-on World Championship Series race March 1. The Spartanburg, SC native cruised to a solo win when Hamilton, Ohio's Joe Leach exploded the engine during the burnout. Jeff Dobbins of Wilmington, NC, drove his Pontiac to the top spot when Jeff House, Clayton, NC was unable to return due to severe engine damage in his semi-final win.Multi-time and defending IHRA Snap-on World Champion, Anthony Bertozzi of Richmond, Virginia used a 6.135 second, 110 mph run to take the win in Super Stock over a 6.343, 108 mph effort by the hemi-powered machine of Wellington, Alabama's Marvin Graves.
Other winners included Columbia, SC's Woody Elders (Modified); Randy Leach, Fairfield, Ohio (Quick Rod); Mark Horton, Walbridge, Ohio (Super Rod); Danny Waters, Jr.., LaGrange, N.C. (Hot Rod); and Paul Crowe, Winchester, Ky. (Stock).
In a special all-out, Pro Modified preview, the 40 Willys driven by Hugh Scott of Red Bay, Al., rocketed to a 4.254 second, 168 mph win over the 63 Corvette of Coward, S.C. racer Bruce McGee.
