NASCAR-FMT: Woods Racing Set to Tackle Martinsville

14 April 1998

Nichols NY: Although the Featherlite Modified Series had a one week break in the schedule, the pace at the garages of Woods Racing continues to move at a hectic pace in preparation of next Saturdays Goodys 200 event at the historic Martinsville Speedway in Virginia. The race has turned into a mission for driver Billy Woods as the team seeks to qualify for the first nationally televised event of the 1998 campaign. Woods is ready for action and says, I think were going to do well at Martinsville. Weve done our homework, and learned from our experience there last year. Because we arent allowed to work on the cars after qualifying, were going to set the car up for the time trials and worry about the race when we get into it. We want to make the show, and put on a good performance for our fans, and everyone at Woods Machine and Tool, and A.W. Miller Technical Sales.

Last weekend saw the Billy Woods Chevrolet at the New Thompson Speedway in Connecticut for the running of the Polar Beverages Ice Breaker. Saturdays qualifying saw Woods pilot the #51 to the 11th fastest time in qualifying. The Nichols (NY) resident ran well all afternoon, but was hampered when a lap was lost in the pits during a stop. Woods ran fast the remainder of the afternoon and turned in a 20th place finish in the event won by Mike Stefanik. Following the race Woods said, We had a great car today. We lost a lap in the pits, otherwise I truly feel we had a top 12 car. Were happy that we qualified solidly for the show and we feel that were headed in the right direction. Bob Bruneau gave us a great motor and the Goodyears were hooked up. Its on to Martinsville, and see if we can continue the improvement!
