NASCAR: Daytona Offers First Ever Collectible Pole Night Ticket

22 April 1998

Daytona Beach, FL - For the first time its 40-year history, Daytona International Speedway will offer a Special Advance Collectible Pole Night Ticket in celebration of one of the most anticipated NASCAR Winston Cup events in recent memory, the 40th Annual Pepsi 400.

"Daytona at the Speed of Light," a three-day Fourth of July celebration culminating with the State of Florida's biggest fireworks show, will mark the inaugural nighttime running of the Pepsi 400 on Saturday, July 4 at 8 p.m.

In celebration of America's largest nighttime sporting event and to commemorate NASCAR's 50th Anniversary, the Speedway is offering a 1998 Pepsi 400 Collectible Pole Night Ticket featuring Jeff Gordon, the youngest Pepsi 400 champion in the event's rich and colorful history.

"The 1998 Pepsi 400 is a perfect time to introduce the first collectible pole night ticket in the 40-year history of the Speedway," said Daytona International Speedway President John Graham. "With each passing day, the anticipation surrounding the inaugural nighttime running of the Pepsi 400 grows.

This collectible ticket will be just one more way race fans will be able to feel a part of this historic event."

The special, limited-edition ticket is a beautiful, four-color design, featuring the No. 24 DuPont Refinishes Chevrolet of the 1995 Pepsi 400 champion in front of a true Daytona icon, a crowd-filled Winston Tower grandstand. The ticket, which also displays a NASCAR 50th Anniversary logo, is not only a collectible, but also is good for gate admission for Bud Pole Award Qualifying at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, when starting positions 1-25 will be determined for the race.

Gordon's 1995 Pepsi 400 title was his first points-paying NASCAR Winston Cup Series victory at Daytona. He is also the youngest champion in the history of the Daytona 500, winning the "Great American Race" in 1997.

Although grandstand seating is sold out for the 1998 Pepsi 400, other options available to fans wishing to experience "Daytona at the Speed of Light" include unreserved grandstand tickets good for admission to all of Thursday's and Friday's on-track action. Infield tickets for the entire weekend of racing will be available at the gate starting on Thursday, July 2.

The first-ever Daytona collectible pole ticket is available by calling the Speedway Ticket Office at (904) 253-7223.
