SPRINTS: Bloomington Speedway to Open 75th Anniversay With a Triple-Header

BLOOMINGTON, IN (April 22, 1998) - The season-long 75th anniversary of Bloomington Speedway kicks off with a sprint car, open wheel modified and street stock triple-header on Friday, May 1. When the first green flag waves from the new flagstand, Bloomington will renew its reputation for thrilling wheel-to-wheel racing on the nation's fastest quarter-mile oval.

Racing action features a 25-lap non-wing sprint car feature paying $1,400 to win, as many of the top sprint car drivers in the Mid-west begin the quest for the 1998 Pennzoil Cup title. Brad Fox is expected to return in defense of his 1997 championship, with top racers looking forward to unseating the Avon, Indiana leadfoot. The return of sprint car qualifying to the racing program will please fans and competitors alike.

Bloomington will pay $450 to the winners of the Opening Night open wheel modified and Indiana Street Stock main events. The increased payoff for this event is through sponsorship by Bloomington's Tire-N-Wheel Center, on West Third Street.

The pit gate opens at 4:30, and the grandstand general admission at 5:30 pm. Hot laps begin at 6:00, with racing at 7:45. General admission is just $10 for opening night spectacular, with all fans ages 12 and under admitted FREE, when accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $20.

There will be a racing car display from noon until 4 pm, at Bloomington's WalMart on Sunday, April 26. All classes are welcomed. Fans of all ages will enjoy meeting Bloomington's drivers and racing crews. WalMart is located at the Second Street exit from SR 37. For more information contact the track at 812-824-7400.
