LARRY MORGAN, RAYBESTOS CAMARO Z28, faced fellow Team Chevrolet driver KURT JOHNSON, AC DELCO CAMARO Z28, in the second round of eliminations. Johnson took the win to advance to the semifinals (7.063/194.97 to 7.064/195.73). It was all about reaction times as Larry's .464 was no match for Kurt's .430).

MORGAN: "We were close enough, we could have won that race. It just wasn't our day. There will be another day. I guess I staged a little sooner than I should have. I believe that we were in a position to win. I thought he was ready, he obviously wasn't. We both ran real well. I hope he wins. You always want the guy who beats you to win. I think he's got as good chance as anybody. He was ahead of me. At times when I shifted and he shifted it looked like I would pull up on him. But I wasn't able to pull up to him towards the end. In two more weeks we will have another chance, maybe it will be my day."

Note: In the semifinals Kurt Johnson defeated Richie Stevens to advance to the final (7.007/196.67 to 7.060/194.72).

GENERAL NOTE:

The Chevrolet Camaro is in two finals today: Ron Capps, Copenhagen Camaro Z28, faces John Force in the classic Chevy vs. Ford battle in the Funny Car final, and Kurt Johnson meets Mike Edwards' Pontiac in the Pro Stock Final.
