5 May 1998

BECHTELSVILLE, PA - Holding off a strong bid by Fred Rahmer, Lance Dewease won $5,000 in the All Star sprint Philadelphia Daily News Thunder on the Hill 35-lap feature Sunday night at Grandview Speedway. The event was co-sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts and AJ Hagerty Industrial Machine and carried a $27,000 purse. The KARS Sprints were also on the card, with Mark Richard winning the 20 lap main. A total of 78 sprint cars competed in the two division program.

The 35 lap A Main went the entire distance non-stop with Jeff Shepard the early leader. By lap 16, Shepard was still on top, followed by Kenny Jacobs in the Tim Hughes J&J with Deweases Dyer No. 461 third. A lap later, Dewease moved into second and set his sights on Shepard.

Fred Rahmer was also on the move, starting 18th and by lap 21 moved into the top three. Dewease took the lead on lap 31, dropping Shepards Double L Racing machine to second, with Rahmer a close third.
