Indy 500: Billy Boat Practice Notes

11 May 1998

* Billy Boat ran 17 laps in practice today with a fast lap of 222.008 mph.

* Billy Boat: "For only running 20 laps I think a 222 (mph) lap is a good starting point for the Conseco/A.J. Foyt Racing team. We still don't have the race car as comfortable as I would like it. The race track itself has less overall grip than it had when we were here testing. The thing about the Indy 500 is that it's bigger than life and it's easy to get emotional and want to be on the top of the speed charts, but the one thing A.J. (Foyt) stresses is to be patient and not make any mistakes. That's why you see him put us out there for only a few laps and then take us back to the garage to think about it."
