INDIANAPOLIS: Pep Boys Indy Racing League driver Jack Hewitt, who crashed on the opening day of practice for the 1998 Indy 500, took another scary ride this morning.

Hewitt, driving the Parker Machinery entry, lost the rear of his race car exiting turn two at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at 11:50 a.m this morning. Hewitt's car went completely sideways (a ninety degree spin) and then forward again. Hewitt over corrected and then did a 180 degree spin. Hewitt came to a stop in the middle of the backstretch without making contact with the wall. Hewitt was not injured in the incident.

The incident was the second of the morning. The track opened at 11:00 a.m. Billy Boat crashed in turn three shortly after the track opened.
