Indy 500: A.J. Foyt/Conseco Racing Report From Indianapolis

15 May 1998

* Boat posted a fast speed of 221.691 mph in today's practice with the No. 11T Conseco/A.J. Foyt Racing car. This speed was ranked third fastest of the day.

* Billy Boat: (following incident in No. 11 car) "It just didn't turn. I was going down into turn three like every other lap and the car just went straight. We don't really know if it was a problem with the car or a gust of wind. That's all history. Now, all we can do is concentrate on the backup car and get it ready for Saturday." (about going out for practice in the No. 11T car a short time later) "That's the thing about being with a well-prepared team like Conseco/A.J. Foyt Racing. At least when you have a problem like this you can come back right away and pick up where you left off. "

* Billy Boat: (comment at end of day) "This isn't the way I would have planned the day before qualifying, to crash the car in the morning, but I think by now we have to be fairly satisfied with the performance of the Conseco car. The car feels the best it has all week and I have my confidence and rhythm back." (about weather for tomorrow) "I think the ideal weather conditions for our team tomorrow will be a hot day with no wind. It's not the temperature that effects the car as much as it seems the wind does."

* A.J. Foyt: "That's it for today. We're happy. We're going to go home and wait for tomorrow."
