Notes of Interest:

Qualifying Record - July 24, 1997 - Mike Swaim, Jr. / Pontiac 34.826 / 155.056 mph.

++This race will start the 38 fastest qualifiers plus four provisional starting positions as determined by NASCAR.

++Practice speeds during testing here in April were unofficially, in excess of 158 mph for many of the cars, indicating that we could be looking at another new track qualifying record.

++Five former Series champions including Larry Caudill, who won the very first Dash Series event at this track in 1975 and won again, twice in 1988 are among the more than 50 Goody's Dash Series drivers expected to vie for the 42 starting positions. Mike Swaim Jr., David Hutto, Mickey York and Robert Huffman are the other former Series champions who are entered.

++Three former Series Rookie of the Year honorees are entered, Darryl Murray, Danny Bagwell and Robert Huffman.

++In the previous 12 Dash Series events here, six times the winner or pole sitter went on to win the Series championship. Dean Combs won the event here and the championship in 1977. Mike Swaim Sr. won both events here and the championship in 1985. Larry Caudill won both events and the championship in 1988. ++Hut Stricklin won here in a Dash Series car in 1987.

++This race has been won from the pole three times. J.V. Reins in 1976, Dean Combs in 1977 and Mike Swaim Sr. in 1985.

++Other drivers who have qualified on the pole here in a Dash Series car are; Shane Reins, Billy Standridge, Rob Moroso, Larry Caudill, Andy Belmont, Mickey York and Mike Swaim Jr.

++Mike Swaim Sr. has recorded the most Dash Series wins at Charlotte Motor Speedway with four. Mike is also the only multiple pole qualifier here with two poles, one in 1985 and one in 1986. Mike will be at this event in a coaching and spotting capacity for his son, the 1997 Goody's Dash Series Champion, Mike Swaim Jr.

++In 1997, Christian Elder became only the third Dash Series competitor to win their first event here as a rookie competitor. The aforementioned Larry Caudill and Jesse Samples Jr., cousin to the Jesse Samples of TV's "Hee Haw" were the other two.

++This year, no less than fifteen Rookie of the Year candidates are entered in this event in hopes of picking up their first Series win under the bright lights of Charlotte Motor Speedway. More importantly, they would like to impress a potential future boss, as the NASCAR Busch Grand National and NASCAR Winston Cup car owners will also be on hand preparing for their weekend events.

++From 1985-1988 the Goody's Dash Series carried the name of this speedway in its title. It was known then as the Charlotte-Daytona Dash Series.
