"We have been extremely pleased with our Goodyear Tires since we unloaded," said Dale Earnhardt, Jr., pole sitter for the First Union 200. "I never even think about them, the guys just bolt'em on and I go. We have a guy on our crew who does an excellent job working with Goodyear. When we tested here, they were good. I think the race will be the same. Goodyear does an excellent job of getting us the right tires for the track.
Earnhardt qualifying time: 28.003 seconds 128.558 m.p.h. Not a new track record
Based on what we have seen in the practice sessions, stated Jon Gerspacher, spokesman for Goodyear "We are not anticipating any tire issues in tomorrow's First Union 200. The weather forecast is for cooler weather from where the temperature was during today's qualifying, which will further enhance tire wear. This track does not abuse tire. We are looking for a safe, competitive race."
