USRRC: Visteon Panoz Racing Team Press Notes

17 May 1998

Driven by Andy Wallace, the #4 Visteon Panoz GTR-1 qualified first in GT1 class and fourth overall for tomorrow's USRRC Can-Am/GT Championship race.

Andy Wallace, #4 Visteon Panoz GTR-1, lap time 1:16.237, 104.35mph : "I'm very happy with the speed of the Visteon Panoz, especially through the high-speed corners. I did a lap at 1:16.5, and I realized that the car can do more, so I slowed for a lap, then ran a 1:16.2. The Michelin qualifying tires were very good.

"The Visteon Panoz Racing Team is not approaching this race as just a GT race. We're competing against the Can-Am cars, and we're looking to win overall. I think it will be a good race."

Tony Dowe, managing director, Panoz Motor Sports: "We've had a good weekend so far, and I'm pleased with the preparation the Visteon Panoz Racing Team has done with both drivers. I'm exceptionally happy with Michelin tires, especially as the number one boss of Michelin, Mr. Pierre Depasqiere is here. I think this shows the healthy state that American sports car racing could be in, especially as he could have been in England at the FIA-GT race. I'm looking forward to a great race tomorrow against everyone."
