NHRA: Red-light Costs Romine a Trip to the Fram Route 66 Nationals Final

2 June 1998

JOLIET, ILL -- A .362 red-light by Paul Romine, driver of the CARQUEST Top Fuel dragster, cost him a second NHRA final round berth of the NHRA season at the inaugural Fram Route 66 Nationals.

I just screw up, that sums it up, Romine said. With Kenny breaking off the starting line, this event was working in our favor, but it just didnt go our way.

After Romine left the starting line .048 before the tree turned green, Bernstein cut a .479 light, then went up in smoke and exploded a supercharger.

With a semi-final finish, Romine and the CARQUEST team will return to Indianapolis and regroup before returning to action June 27 at a match race in Milan, MI. The next national event for the team will the IHRA Summer Nationals July 4th weekend at Cordova (Ill.) Dragway Park.
