CART: Papis Leads First Round in Detroit

DETROIT, MI: Following are the results from the first round of qualifying for the ITT Automotive Detroit Grand Prix CART FedEx Championship race to be held Sunday. The second round of qualifying will be conducted on Saturday.Faster cars went out first while the track was still wet. CART officials made teams and drivers use rain tires (grooved) during the first qualifying session. The track was dry by the time the slower cars took to the track. The second group used traditional racing slicks.
