NASCAR Trucks: Scot Walters Escapes Serious Injury In Texas Crash

6 June 1998

Fort Worth, Texas--Scot Walters driver of the No.37 Red Man/Brewco Motorsports Chevrolet truck was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas after being involved in a multi truck accident. The accident took place on lap four of the June 5th Pronto Auto Parts 400k NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas.

Walters received a two-inch cut on his chin and was also complaining of neck pain upon arrival to the hospital. Walters received three layers of stitches to close the wound to his chin. He also underwent a series of tests and x- rays on his head and neck area, all of which showed only bruising, with no serious injuries. Walters was released from the hospital late Friday night and is expected to be home in Owensboro, Kentucky on Saturday evening.

The accident occurred just at the exit of turn two, while Walters was battling for fourth place. Walters drove into turn two and the Red Man truck broke loose veering head on into the outside wall. The truck was then hit several times by other trucks, as it resembled a pinball down the back straight. The No.37 Red Man truck came to rest just before turn three.

After the crash, the Red Man truck was brought into the garage and crew chief Terry Shirley had some time to survey the damage. "Scot is very lucky," said Shirley. "He took some hard hits. Thank goodness the truck's driver area stayed intact and held up. We can build new trucks but we can't build a new driver."

Walters is expected to participate in time to participate in the Loadhandler 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway on June 20th.
