Winston Cup Teams to Test at Road Atlanta

12 June 1998

Braselton, Ga., June 12, 1998 -- Road Atlanta Motor Sports Center will host ten leading NASCAR Winston Cup teams for a special test session on Tuesday, June 16, 1998 on its recently reconfigured road course. The teams will use this session to prepare for the upcoming Winston Cup road course events at Sears Point and Watkins Glen.

Drivers taking part in the test will include Rusty Wallace, Bill Elliott, Dale Jarrett, Ernie Irvin, Lake Speed, Kyle Petty, John Andretti, Ricky Craven and possibly Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon.

This follows a recent NASCAR Craftsman Truck test session which the Mopar team conducted at Road Atlanta to familiarize its drivers with the nuances of vehicle set-up on a road course.

"We've had a great deal of interest in our new facility," says Jim Selwa, C.O.O., Panoz Motor Sports, "and we're working toward hosting a NASCAR truck race or possibly an ARCA or Busch Grand National race here in the future."

Road Atlanta Motor Sports Center will hold its first Pro Truck race on June 27 and its sister circuit -- Mosport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario -- is running CASCAR events this season at the Canadian facility.

The Road Atlanta Motor Sports Center is part of the Panoz group of companies. These include Panoz Motor Sports, with race teams competing in the FIA GT World Sports Car Championship and the U.S. sports car series; legendary Sebring International Raceway; Mosport Park; Panoz Auto Development, a manufacturer of limited -production, high-performance sports cars; and Chateau Elan, a four-star resort in northeast Georgia.
