DON'T BRING A KNIFE TO A GUNFIGHT- On June 1st, Stacy Compton, driver of the #86 Royal Crown Ford F-150 and Jay Sauter, driver of the #3 Goodwrench Chevrolet were on hand for the two-seater ride-a-long program at Bristol, to kick off this weekend's race. Each driver was able to give a four-lap ride to the visiting media. The Ford two-seater was equipped with an Winston Cup motor and the Chevy truck had a stock Corvette. After three trips around the track, it was obvious that Compton was in the stronger truck, with lap times around the 17.3 mark consistently. Jay Sauter approached Compton feeling somewhat outmatched, remarked, "Hey Stacy, I feel like a brought a knife to a gunfight."

THE INTIMIDATOR- Stacy Compton collected his first victory in the NCTS at Portland Speedway (.5-mile)on April 25, where he dominated the field leading 197 of the 200 laps. He 'cut his teeth' on the short tracks in the NASCAR Racing Series, where he captured 36 wins and 39 poles. "I've always been competitive on the short tracks," noted Compton. "Bristol is the premiere short track in racing. The high-banks make it the most intimidating track we'll face this season."

KEEPING UP WITH THE JONES'S- Compton is the only team in the top-five NCTS point standings without an Winston Cup affiliation. Team RC is currently in fourth position in the NCTS point standings behind leaders Jack Sprague, Ron Hornaday and Joe Ruttman, all of which are tied to Winston Cup teams. "This series has always been very competitive," said Compton. "We're not only keeping up with the Jones's, we're trying to beat them, week in and week out."

IT'S ALL IN THE NUMBERS- Compton's fifth place finish at Texas Motor Speedway marks his fourth top-five this season. Impressively, he has finished sixth, third, and fifth in the past three starts on tracks of a mile or more in length. He is averaging a fifth-place finish on short tracks with a 11th place at I-70, a fourth place at Monroe Speedway and the win at Portland Speedway. Compton is fifth in money earned with $132,055.
