Tracks: Bloomington Celebrates 75th Year with Independence Day Fireworks

18 June 1998

BLOOMINGTON, IN - A fireworks spectacular will mark the exclamation point of Bloomington Speedway's 75th Birthday on Friday, July 3. The pyrotechnic celebration is just one of the headlines to be written during a bash that features a complete racing program of mini-sprints, street stocks and open wheel modifieds. Bloomington Speedway was constructed in 1923, and first saw racing action during that summer. Seventy-five years later, Mike and Judy Miles are hosting the three-quarter century party that will be talked about by racing fans for the next seventy-five years.

The competitive spotlight will focus on the lightening-fast cars of the American Winged Mini-sprint Association, lead by defending champion Kevin Chambers, of Bloomington. The AWMA feature will pay $1,000 to the winner. Sharing billing with the AWMA, the WalMart Tire & Lube Express Street Stocks and Bloomington's Open Wheel Modified division will also see action under the lights, and the main events pay $350 for each division winner.

General admission for the 4th of July and 75 Years of Racing at Bloomington Speedway is just $10. Racing fans twelve and under are admitted free with a paying adult. Pit admission is $20. The grandstand gates will open at 5:30, hot laps are at 6:30, and racing begins at 7:45.
