NASCAR: Kendall has Strong Finish for LJ Racing at Sears Point

30 June 1998

Mooresville, NC - Joe Falk's decision to put road racing ace Tommy Kendall in the #91 Chevrolet Monte Carlo at Sears Point gave the team a few new records to boast. They led the first two laps of Winston Cup competition in team history, and won the Exide All Charged Up Award for the first time this season.

"Tommy drove a competative race all day, and Crew Chief Doug Richert made the calls for pit strategy which allowed the team to stay in the top ten for most of the afternoon" said team owner Joe Falk. "We started 42nd on the grid and finished 16th, winning a $1,000 bonus for the Exide Award. It was a great afternoon for LJ Racing."

The highlight of the day was Kendall leading two laps of competition, a first for the 2nd year team. "The entire team was cheering as Tommy raced for the front, led a few laps, and remained at the front of the pack, until the tires gave way in the final 15 laps" said Falk. "We even moved up two positions in owner points with the great finish."

LJ Racing continues it's search for a primary sponsor, determined that their on track performance will spark some interest. The team is busy preparing their superspeedway car for the July 4th race at Daytona. A decision has not yet been made on who will drive.
