NASCAR Trucks: Scot Walters Carries Diverse History to Milwaukee

2 July 1998

Scot Walters, driver of the Red Man/Brewco Motorsports Chevrolet truck comes into the Diehard 200 at The Milwaukee Mile having a short but diverse history at the flat fairground speedway. Walters served as crew chief on the No. 37 Red Man Chevrolet truck during the running of the 1997 event, when Mark Green was the driver.

"I feel like I have an advantage coming here because of being crew chief last year," said Walters. "Most of the guys running in this race have never had the opportunity to be on the other side of the wall, and make the calls on race day. The things I learned from that experience will not only help me this week, but have and will help me at other places. I guess I'm just more aware of what the crew goes through during a race."

Walters other experience at the Milwaukee Mile was in the NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series. Walters raced at the historic speedway in the early 1990's but never had the financial backing to be a contender.

"This is the type of track that takes a lot of motor and good fuel mileage to run up front," said Walters. "The few times I raced here I never had the money to go out and do the motor work required to run this type of track. Which in my case was disappointing because I liked the track it is fun to race on."

Scot Walters and the Red Man/Brewco Motorsports team have been running at the finish of eight of the first nine events run in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The only DNF of the season came at the Texas Motor Speedway, where an accident eliminated Walters.

"We're a little disappointed in the first third of the season," said Walters. "We have had a tough year to date. It's been a learning experience for me as a driver and the crew who had never worked together until this year. The big thing in our favor is we've got a great sponsor, good ownership, and the guys believe in themselves. Now all we have to do is just get a good finish and build some momentum for the run to the end of the year."

Open Pantry convenience stores is the associate sponsor on the No. 37 Red Man Chevrolet for the Diehard 200 at The Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wisconsin. The chain operates two stores in the city of Milwaukee.
