WOO: Olson Moves Beaver Dam Event to Hales Corners

3 July 1998

HALES CORNERS, WI - The Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series event originally scheduled for May 3rd at Beaver Dam Raceway and postponed to July 20th has been moved to Hales Corners Speedway, Promoter Gerry Olson announced Wednesday.

"The ongoing battle between the local sprint car racing series and the owners of Beaver Dam hurt our car count and crowd," Olson said, citing the Beer Town Showdown the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series ran at Beaver Dam Raceway June 17th. "We don't have any choice but to move the event so we can put on a quality World of Outlaws event."

Hales Corners Speedway, a semi-banked, 1/3-mile oval, hosted 13 Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series events between 1985 and 1996. The Seventh Annual Beer Town Showdown - run at Hales Corners on July 11, 1996 - attracted 59 cars. Thirty-one cars were in the pit area at Beaver Dam June 17th, the series' fourth event at the high-banked, 1/3-mile oval in the last three years.
