Tracks: Sprint Cars Top Busy Night at Bloomington Speedway

BLOOMINGTON, IN - The Pennzoil Cup non-wing sprint cars headline the racing program at Bloomington Speedway on Friday, July 10. The sprint car drivers and teams are less than two weeks from the opening shots of Indiana Sprint Week and preparations for the seven race series are beginning.

Several of the drivers who will be in action Friday night look for good runs during Sprint Week. Brad Fox and Derek Davidson have both visited Bloomington's victory lane this season, where Fox is the defending champion of the Friday night Indiana Sprint Week event. Davidson, Tony Elliott and Kevin Thomas are contenders for this year's USAC Stoops Freightliner title. Both Thomas and Elliott have earned single wins in the series and they currently head the USAC sprint car point standings. Davidson, Bloomington's 1996 track champion, is hoping that a strong Sprint Week series will boost him back into contention with the leaders. Friday night's race promises to be a good preview of Sprint Week action.

Bloomington's WalMart Tire & Lube Express Street Stocks and open wheel modifieds also share the card.

It will be a busy night with two special events on tap. While Paul Shafer's 'Monster Patrol' will conduct an awesome display of car crushing, the sprint car division owners and mechanics race will display the talents of those who normally spend their time in a support role.

Paul Shafer's "Monster Patrol" monster truck has 572 cubic inches, a 1600 horsepower Keith Black engine, 871 blower, 400 turbo transmission and weighs approximately 10,000 lbs. Shafer has won various awards and events with this monster.

The pit gate opens at 4:30, and the grandstand gates at 5:30 pm. Hot laps begin at 6:00, with racing at 7:45. General admission is just $10, with all fans ages 12 and under admitted FREE, when accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $20.
