MINI-SPRINT: Blaise Regina Wins PA/NY Mini Sprint Challenge Race

8 July 1998

Easton, Pa. , -- Blaise Regina of Altamont, New York won his second feature of the season when he took the checkered flags first at Penn Can Speedway on July 2 in the Pennsylvania Outlaw/Central New York Mini Sprint Challenge Race. Regina survived restarts and red flags to capture the event that started 24 of the fastest Mini Sprints in the East. Rob Howell of Milton, Pa. was the early leader until he tangled with the lapped car of John Anderika and flipped in this incident. Regina inherited the lead from Howell but had his hands full with Bob Scaccio from Suffern, New Jersey. Regina and Scaccio swapped the lead several times while racing for the win. Bullville, New York's Bobby Zwart was charging through the field from his 16th place starting spot and on lap 16 passed Scaccio for second. Zwart went after Regina but the current Central New York Mini Sprint points leader had to settle for second place. Scaccio held on to third and Jeff Paulson of Honey Brook, Pa. and AJ Bagozzi from Camillus, New York completed the top five.

The Woodard's Concrete Products Central New York Mini Sprints next race will be at Fonda Speedway in New York on July 11th.
