NASCAR BGN: Casey Atwood Signs with Brewco Motorsports

12 July 1998

Central City, Ky. -- Brewco Motorsports Inc. announced the formation of a second NASCAR Busch Series team and named Casey Atwood as the driver of the No. 27 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. He is a team mate to Mark Green, who drives the Brewco Motorsports No. 37 Timber Wolf Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Atwood, 17, of Antioch, Tennessee will compete in select NASCAR Busch Series events in 1998 and the full schedule in 1999. His first race with the Central City, Kentucky based team is today's Myrtle Beach 250 at Myrtle Beach Speedway.

"The motorsports industry has proven the success and benefits of a multi-car operation," said Brewco Motorsports president Clarence Brewer, Jr. "The formation of an additional team will make Brewco Motorsports more competitive in the future. We now have access to additional personnel and the ability to develop in-house programs, such as chassis, body and engine.

"We have been watching Casey's progress for over a year," continued Brewer. "He raced at Nashville Speedway, 100 miles from our shop and he has raised some eye brows. He is a very successful young driver with a bright future."

In six career NASCAR Busch Series starts, Atwood has one pole and one top five finish.

"I've been talked to by several teams concerning my future and am most impressed with Clarence Brewer and the entire Brewco Motorsports team," said Atwood. "I feel very comfortable with the entire organization. They are very willing to do whatever is necessary to win"

Sponsorship negotiations are underway and an announcement for the No. 27 team will be made at a future date.
