GDS Race #10 Orange County Speedway Pre-race Report GOODY'S DASH SERIES NASCAR TOURING For Immediate Release July 9,1998 A T K ENGINES "125" What: The A T K Engines "125" is race No. 10 in the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series 1998 Schedule. Where: The Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, N.C. is a .375 mile high banked asphalt oval. The speedway is located 2 miles west of US 501 on SR 57 (north of Durham). When: Saturday, July 18, 1998 - 7:45 p.m. Distance: 125 Laps (46.875 Miles) Promoter: Orange County Raceway, Inc. Sanction: National Association of Stock Car Automobile Racing Inc. (NASCAR) Schedule: Saturday, July 18--Registration and inspection 10:00 a.m. Mandatory Rookie Drivers Meeting 12:30 p.m. (at the Dash Trailer). Practice 1:00 -3:00 p.m. Draw for qualifying 3:15 p.m. Time Trials (2 laps) 5:15 p.m. Mandatory Driver and Crew Chief Meeting 7:00 p.m. Posted Awards: $22,400 Including Promoters Purse, Cash Contingency Awards, $1500 NASCAR Goody's Dash Series Championship Points Fund and $2500 NASCAR Goody's Dash Series Top 20 Bonus Plan. Participating Manufacturers: Goody's Pharmaceuticals, Moog Chassis Parts, NGK Spark Plugs, NAPA Oil Filters, Pontiac Racing, Pro Shocks, Toyota Racing, Victor Reinz Gaskets, Anheuser-Busch, Gatorade, Goodyear Tires, STP Oil Treatment, Unocal 76 Gasoline. Race Record - Record not available. ¨ This event will mark the halfway point of the 1998 Goody's Dash Series schedule. ¨ The $15,000 Goody's Mid-season Consistency Awards will be awarded to the top ten drivers in the Laps Completed statistic at the conclusion of this event. Currently, (prior to the Greenville-Pickens event) Robert Huffman is leading that category. ¨ This event will mark the first appearance for the Goody's Dash Series at Orange County Speedway since April 30, 1988. Larry Caudill won that last event after pole sitter Mike Watts led the first half of the race. ¨ Other prior winners of this event reads like a Who's Who of stock car racing. In the six Goody's Dash Series races here, Michael Waltrip won the first three. Twice from the pole in '83 and the only Dash Series race here in '84. Morgan Shepherd won the only Goody's Dash Series event here in '85 and Hut Stricklin won here in '86. There were no Dash Series events here in '87. ¨ Two Dash Series competitors that are looking forward to this event are Ricky Bryant of Linwood, N.C. and Mark Ellington of Oxford, N.C. Bryant was the 1993 and 1995 Mini Stock Champion at Orange County Speedway and Ellington is the reigning Limited Sportsman Champion there. Note: Prior to 1992, some records may be incomplete. Rules Specific To This Track: Tires: Goodyear 2376 (Left Side) 2372 (Right Side) Field: 28 fastest qualifiers plus two provisionals. Motel Information: The Innkeeper is the 1998 Official Host Motel for the Orange County Speedway. There are three Innkeeper locations in the area to choose from, Madison Ave., Roxboro, NC at 910-599-3800, Hillsborough Rd., Durham, NC at 919-309-4579 and Hwy. 55 Durham, NC at 919-544-4579. Roxboro is approximately 15-20 min. from the track, Durham is approximately 20-30 min away. There is also a Days Inn in Roxboro at 910-599-9276.
