GOODY'S DASH DRIVERS TO RECEIVE
$15,000 IN MID-SEASON AWARDS
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. July 13-Goody's Pharmaceuticals will present their annual $15,000 Goody's Mid-season Consistency Awards during a special presentation following the ATK Engines "125" at Orange County Speedway July 18, 1998. These awards are designed to give special recognition to the ten most consistent drivers in the Series based on their laps completed percentage at the halfway point in the season.
Robert Huffman of Claremont, N.C. has had sole possession of the lead in the laps completed statistic ever since the fourth event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. His 1,001 laps completed of the 1,002 possible puts the former Series Champion in line to collect the $5,000 first place award with a 99.9 percent rating.
Huffman is being closely pursued by Jon Redman of Fairfax Station, Va. After the last event at Greenville-Pickens Speedway, S.C. Redman trails Huffman by nine laps for a 99.0 percent rating. Second place in the Award standings is worth $3,000.
Rookie of the Year point leader Donnie Apple of Trinity, N.C. is currently third in the laps completed category with 976 laps run and a 97.4 percent rating. If Apple can continue to hold on to that spot, he will be rewarded with a $2,000 check from the folks at Goody's Pharmaceuticals.
Other drivers in position to collect their share of the $15,000 are Ricky Bryant, Gary Moore who finished second in this competition last year and Doc Brewer in positions fourth through sixth. Last year's winner of the Goody's Award, Jake Hobgood is currently seventh while B.J. Mackey, Jimmy Gross and another Rookie candidate, Chris Hall round out the top ten. Awards for positions four through ten range from $1,000 to $500.
Bryan Gandy and two-time winner in 1998, David Hutto are just outside the top ten but still within reach of an award should one or more of the leaders have problems in the Orange County event.
