CART: Miller Brewing Company, Racing Greats to Honor Rahal at August Tribute

15 July 1998

Bobby Rahal
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Friends, associates and fellow competitors will honor one of Championship Car racing's great sportsmen August 10 at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus, Ohio, when Miller Brewing Company presents Out In Front, A Tribute To Bobby Rahal.

The charity roast, to be hosted by ESPN SportsCenter anchor Kenny Mayne and feature tributes from racing greats Al Unser Jr., Don "The Snake" Prudhomme and Rusty Wallace among others, will benefit The Bobby Rahal Foundation.

The foundation, a not-for-profit endowment created through The Columbus Foundation to generate and distribute charitable funds raised during Rahal's final season as a driver, will identify worthwhile organizations within the race markets the CART series visits in 1998 to share foundation donations at the conclusion of the season.

"This is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime event," said Miller Brewing Company's Mike Welsh. "It will be a special evening for friends and fans, associates and fellow racers to honor a friend, a gentleman and a champion. We're looking forward to it."

The event will coincide with Rahal's final home race, the Miller Lite 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in nearby Lexington, Ohio.

"As I've said often during this season, I've been very blessed in my career and in my life," said Rahal, the three-time CART champion and two-time Driver of the Year who will race for the final time in November before turning his full attention to team ownership. "It's terribly humbling to be honored like this and gratifying to have made an impact on people. I'm fortunate, through this event and through the foundation, to have the chance to continue to do so."

Tickets for the tribute are available through The Bobby Rahal Foundation by calling Karin Line at 614/529-7000. Corporations and groups may purchase tables of ten for the dinner and program. Event sponsorships also are available.
