Hornadays win tightens NASCAR Craftsman Truck points race

Ron Hornaday, driving on badly worn tires, held on Sunday to win his 21st career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Nazareth Speedway. Hornaday, who started 10th, drove his Chevrolet into the lead on the 57th of 200 laps around the one-mile speedway and never gave up the front-running position. He beat Stacy Compton's Ford by 3.985 seconds.

Compton, who crashed his primary truck in qualifying, was forced to start at the rear in a substitute machine. He carved Hornaday's lead in half, after passing Jack Sprague's Chevrolet for second-Place with five laps remaining.

The last lap was a wild one: Sprague, running third, crashed on the backstretch and came to a halt in the track's third turn as his truck caught fire. Joe Ruttman, battling for third-place with Jay Sauter, hit the fourth turn wall a split second later but limped to a fifth-place finish. Neither driver was injured, nor were 11 other competitors whose trucks were knocked out of the race by accidents. Rookie Reeves to replace veteran Guerrero
