NASCAR: First Union Shifts Primary Sponsorship, Signs Jeff Green for Remainder of '98

31 July 1998

MOORESVILLE, NC: The No. 46 Team SABCO Chevrolet Monte Carlo will be sporting a new name as its primary sponsor at the Brickyard 400 and for the rest of the season: The Money Store.

First Union is refocusing its sponsorship to The Money Store to promote the company as its newest corporate acquisition. First Union will continue as a major associate sponsor.

"It's exciting for us to add The Money Store name to the First Union car, as our first opportunity to promote the merger between our two companies," said Jack Antonini, executive vice president of the First Union Consumer Banking Group. "Both First Union and The Money Store are strong supporters of NASCAR, and their nationwide name recognition is a perfect fit with NASCAR's strong following throughout the country."

The Money Store began its involvement in the sport at the start of the year by sponsoring the NASCAR 50th Anniversary Fan Tour. The exhibit is an interactive display featuring cars representing the five decades of the sport. In addition, fans can register to win the official pace car of the Tour and pick up the keys during an all-expense paid trip to New York for two the weekend of December 5. The exhibit is making a stop in all 20 major market areas where NASCAR Winston Cup races are scheduled this year. The display is currently set up on the midway and Jeff Green, driver of the No. 46, is scheduled to sign autographs there later this week.

Because of his recent accomplishments with the team, Green has been signed to drive for the remainder of the year except at Watkins Glen, NY, due to the team's prior commitment with Tommy Kendall.
