NASCAR WCUP: Spencer Released from Indianapolis Hospital

4 August 1998

INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 3, 1998 - NASCAR Winston Cup driver Jimmy Spencer was released from Methodist Hospital on Monday morning, two days after suffering a concussion during a late crash in the Brickyard 400.

Spencer was in good condition and good spirits upon release, said attending physician Dr. Kenneth Renkens.

The left-rear quarter panel and left side of Spencer's Ford hit the outside retaining wall between Turns 1 and 2 on Lap 155 after his car spun. Another car apparently made contact with the rear of Spencer's car while both exited Turn 1.

Jeff Gordon won the fifth annual Brickyard 400.
