USAC Western Champs Invited to Russell Racing School

7 August 1998

SONOMA, Calif. -- The United States Auto Club and the Russell Racing School of Sonoma, Calif. have announced a driver development program for USAC western champions. The 1998 champions in the USAC Western States Sprint, Midget and TQ Midget series will each be invited to participate in an oval training course utilizing the Formula Russell cars. The location and date for this clinic have yet to be determined.

"We are very fortunate to have a partner like the Russell Racing School that can provide this type of experience for our USAC drivers wishing to progress to the top levels of the sport, such as the Pep Boys Indy Racing League," said Tommy Hunt, USAC vice president for western operations.

The Russell Racing School oval course features the same cars used in the USAC sanctioned Russell Triple Crown Pro Racing Series, and will provide valuable rear-engine experience. The Formula Russell cars are open-wheel, single seat cars with a five speed gearbox and aerodynamic wings. Weighing in at 1150 pounds and producing upwards of 175 horsepower, top speed is around 150 mph.

In addition to the Russell Triple Crown Pro Series, USAC sanctions the Russell Racing Series. The Russell Racing School is the official school of USAC, offering driver and mechanic courses.
