CART: Forsythe Team Looking to Make it Two in a Row

7 August 1998

LEXINGTON, Oh., - Fresh from Greg Moore’s U.S. 500 Champ Car victory and Alex Tagliani’s Trois-Rivieres Atlantic car victory, Forsythe Racing is psyched up and looking to take back-to-back victories as they descend on the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Moore’s outlook on racing is a little different entering Round 13 of 19 in the CART FedEx Championship Series. Following his recent victory, Moore was removed from a three-race probation which was issued as a result of his involvement in a multi-car, opening-lap mishap in Portland several weeks earlier.

"It seems we may have finally shaken the monkey off our back after our problems at Portland. It’s a definite relief to have the probation lifted," said Moore. "We tested earlier here at Mid-Ohio, and the Blue Crew was able to nail down a setup that I was really comfortable with. Mid-Ohio is a fun track, not only for the drivers but for the fans. It’s probably one of the most physically demanding of the tracks we race on now because you’re always working the turns and the constant ups and downs of the terrain. Last year we came in second, so this year we’re going for the win."

Patrick Carpentier’s strategy to winning at Mid-Ohio is two-fold: Maintain a keen sense of focus and concentration, and have the perfect car setup.

"I’m looking forward to this weekend. When we ran here earlier in testing, we were very quick. If we have the same success this weekend as we did in testing, I think we’ll have a chance at winning the race," said Carpentier. "The Mid-Ohio track is not only physically demanding but mentally as well. You have to concentrate constantly. It’s definitely not easy and it’s not boring."

Forsythe Racing’s Atlantic drivers Lee Bentham and Alex Tagliani are the latest stars discovered by team owner Jerry Forsythe. Tagliani’s latest victory (his second in a row) and Bentham’s third place podium appearance is proof that the Atlantic duo is on a roll. In fact, in four of the last five races both drivers have finished on the podium. Bentham leads the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship drivers’ standings with 100 points, and Tagliani is tied for second with Memo Gidley with 98 points.

Team owner Jerry Forsythe’s mission statement of Expect to Win! is proving effective as his drivers have of late been accustomed to visiting winner’s circle.

"Our team as a whole has overcome a few obstacles which has paved the way to our latest victories. With superb driving by all four drivers, and the hard work put in by the Blue Crew, I think you’ll be seeing the team continue to run up at the front," said Forsythe.
