NHRA: 1998 Revell Nationals Preview #7
18 August 1998
13th annual NHRA Revell Nationals Weekly PreviewVol. 1 Issue 7 August 17, 1998
Looking Ahead:
Prior to the 13th annual NHRA Revell Nationals the Texas Motorplex
will host
the Sears Craftsman E.T. Bracket Finals on October 2-4. This event will
feature the top 45 bracket racers representing the tracks that comprise
the
South Central Division of the NHRA. Many of these drivers will return to
the
Motorplex for the Revell Nationals and compete in the Super Gas, Super
Comp,
Stock, Super Stock or Competition Eliminator classes, October 22-25,
1998.
Revell Nationals Moment:
In 1992 Cruz Pedregon won his only Winston Funny Car Championship but
it was
the NHRA Revell Nationals final round versus John Force that many fans
remember as Cruz's highlight. Both drivers flew off of the starting line
and
then each driver lost traction. In a classic foot-peddling contest Cruz
took
the win when Force was disqualified for hitting the guardwall. Cruz's
winning time of 7.760 seconds at 202.97 mph still stands as the slowest
winning Funny Car final round.
Quotable:
"I've always enjoyed racing at the Motorplex and now, to return as a
driver
who's won at the track is special. It is still one of the top tracks and
capable of producing national-record times and speeds. The people in the
Dallas-Fort Worth area show their support for our Copenhagen Racing Camaro
Funny Car team and we like to return the favor by winning the race."
- Copenhagen Funny Car Driver Ron Capps
