18 August 1998

Martinsville, VA---Tickets for Martinsville Speedways 1999 season went on sale Monday morning and fans from as far away as Ohio were standing in line when the ticket office opened at 9 a.m.

Ray Timberlake drove six hours from his hometown in Ohio to ensure he got seats high up in the tower on the frontstretch. I wanted to make sure I got good tickets. I thought it was worth the drive down here just so I could get good tickets, Timberlake said. Timberlake said he visits other tracks too, but really enjoys the racing at Martinsville.

Its good racing here, its a good track, people are nice here, and you can see everything here, he said.

Lee Wolford arrived at 12:45 a.m. on Monday morning from his home about 60 miles north of Richmond to make sure he was first in line for tickets, and he was. He has been coming to Martinsville for the past 20 years.

I like this track. It has a good atmosphere, its a good track, a clean track, a family track. I just like short track racing and they dont get any shorter than this one, he said.

I tell my friends if you want to find out who knows how to drive a race car, go to Martinsville. Thats where you sort out the real drivers from the drivers, he added.
