Tracks: Bloomington's Second Tribute to Dizz Wilson Highlights Winged Sprint Cars

19 August 1998

BLOOMINGTON, IN - The sweet sound of winged sprint cars will fill Bloomington Speedway on Friday, August 21. The second annual "Tribute to Dizz Wilson" will feature a 25-lap main event paying $2,000 to win.

As the oldest operating dirt oval in the nation continues its season long 75-year celebration, the events will focus on those who kept the racing alive at the oldest operating dirt oval in the country. This year's event will also remember Wayne Padgett, who recently passed away. Padgett worked with Dizz Wilson, rejuvenating the oval for its Memorial Day 1947 reopening.

Kelly Kinser, the defending Dizz Wilson Tribute champion, will be vying for his third consecutive winged sprint car victory at the Bloomington oval. Other drivers who may compete at Bloomington include Randy Kinser, Kevin Huntley, Larry Bland, Bob Burkle, Dickie Gaines, Eric Davis, Mike Bowling, Pete Abel, Fred Boso and Nick Naber.

The racing program will include Bloomington's WalMart Tire & Lube Express street stocks and open wheel modifieds. A special highlight will be the ladies "powder puff" feature. The ladies will compete in both street stocks and modifieds at the same time.

Family priced general admission is just $12, with fans 12 years old and under admitted free with an adult. Grandstand gates open at 5:30, with action picking up at 6:30 and racing at 7:45. The pit gate opens at 4:30, with pit admission $20.
